From Messrs. Angus a nd Robertson, Melbou- ne and Sydney, we ha\ c recei ed 'Practical and Theoretical Geometry, in two parts (i rice Gd each). As elementary class books of this important subject they supply all that is needful. They are quite in accordance with the late changes in the teaching of geometry^ A pupil who goes through thorn in tho junior classes will have nothing to unlea n in the stiror classes. A feature of the books is the chapter on ' graphs.'
Mr. Benjamin Hoaic, piincipal leader writer of the Melbourne ' Age, 1 has just entered on his 65th year He has written several most, interesting booklets for the Australian Catholic Truth Society, and is one of the leading laymen of the Melbourne archdiocese. The longest telephone line in the Commonwealth has been laid between Brisbane and Bundaberg (Q ) which covers 218 miles. The distance being long, the tarifl is proportionately high— 3s 2d for the first three minutes' conversation, and 2s for each additional thiee minutes.
