(From an occasional correspondent.)

The Catholic Debating Society held the iirst meeting of the session on Tuesday, May 22, when a debate was held on the question, ' Should members of local bodies be paid for their services to such institutions?' Mr. James Toomey occupied the chair. Mr. W. Cuttance spoke in ths affirmative, whilst the negative contention was supported by Mr. M. Daly. A good many of the members present took part in the discussion, which proved very interesting;. The affirmative side won on the casting vote of the chairman.

There was an excellent attendance present at 1 the meeting of the Cathol'C Literary and Debating Society on June 5. Mr. T. McGuigan occupied the chair. The question box formed the programme for the evening. Some keen discussions took place on various subjects, which were both interesting and instructive, the' junior members taking a prominent jait.
