Ihe new church at Waikaka in Gore parish will {be blessed and opened on Sunday, 'ihe ceremony will be performed by the Rev. Fattier Coney, Adm. Sunday being the feast of the patronage of St Joseph, there way solemn High Mass at St. Joseph's Cathedral at 11 o'clock His Lordship the Bishop presided. Rev. Father O'Reilly was celebrant, Very Rev. Dean Smyth deacon, Hey. Father (Jleary subdeaco.ii, and Rev. Father Coftey master of ceremonies ills Lordship preached on the day's festival. There was Exposition of the Blessed baxrament fioni| High Mass until Vespers, after which there was the usual procession. The Very Rev. Dean Smyth, of Has-tings preached on the Blessed Sacrament. ' The Boys' Club in. connection with the Cathedral parish was inaugurated on Monday evening at a meeting held in St. Joseph's Mall. The Rev. Father Coffey, Adm., presided. Addiesses were given by the Rev. chairman, Rev. Father Corcoaan, Rev. Brother Brady] and others. Wiggins • committee, Masters F. togartv, T. Lafley, L. Coughlan, B. Connor, and L. O'Lomneli. It was decided to hold the weekly meeting on Monday evening, Tuesday evening will be devoted to gymnastics. There was a large attendance of members present on Wednesday evening of last wick: in St. Joseph's Hall, when the balancq sheet and report of St. Joseph's Ladies' Club were read. Rev. Father Coney, Adm., presided, and Rev. Father Corcoran was present. The committee in their report slated that the weekly meetings had been well attended, and that the past season had been' most successful. The. majority of memlbers took advantage of the elocution class conducted by Miss Leech, < and gave evidence of their progress by the production of two dramas during the season. The membership was 59, and the hope was expressed that the number on the roll would be greaUly Increased this. year. In concluding the committee thanked all who had kindly assisted the club during the year, and especially his Lordship the Bishop "and clergy. The balance sheet showed receipts from all sources, including the sum of £12 Is 5d brougjht forward, to be £38 16s 6d, and the expenditure £35 lOslld, toa\ingv£3 6s >5d in hand. Rev. Father Coffey congratulated the members on such a large attendance, and hoped they would have a very s-iicce&sful year, and that the hall would be filled every Wednesday evening. He specially requested the memfbers to do their best to bring new members to the club. There were always strangers coming to town, and very often young Catholic girls, comung from the country to work in Dunedin, had no Catholic friends, and he trusted that the members would induce these to join the club. The following have been appointed office-bearers for the year :— President, Miss Staunton ; secretary and treasurer, Miss D. Purton ; committee, Misses O'Neill, Bryant, Hannigan, Johnson, and Brady. Missea Staunton and Purtora were appointed the club's representatives on the executive committee. There was a good attendance at the usual weekly meeting of St. Joseph's Men's Club on Friday evening, Rev. Father Coffey, Adm., presiding. The programme for the evening consisted of an interesting 'account of the proceedings at the rocent conference in Wellington of the Federated Catholic Young Men's Societies, by Mr. J. B. Callain, Jun., the club's representative. Mr. Call an explained at some length the aims of the Federation, and gave several instances of its worth. With regard to a men's branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Mr. Callan said that from what he had heard concerning the working of Itlve Society in other parts of the Colony he considered such a society an urpjent necessity in any port where this excellent organisation does not at present exist. Its work in districting suitable literature to Catholic seamen and in inducing tT-esc to practise their religion has placed beyond doubt its necessity and utility. Mr. Callan gave an interes'tinc account of the 1 Magazine,' and anpealed for a more generous support of that publication. He paid a well - deserved tribute of praise to the energy and enthusiasm of Mr. McKeowen, the editor of the ' Magazine.' In conclusion Mr. Callan spoke in very complimentary terms of the hospitality extended to the visitors by the Wellington peonle, who spared no pains in their efforts to make their stay as pleasant as possiMe. Mr. Deehan, in proposing a vote of thanks jto' Mr. Oalllan, congratulated himi on his granhic and interesting account of the proceedings of the conference, and thanked him on behalf of the club for acting as its- repxeson'taitive..
