It is stated that the Catholics of the United States have decided to erect in New York a Cathedral which will be the largest in the world. Its lengfh will bo 22ft longer than St. Paul's— that is 547 feet. The height of the dome will be 4,5 feet, topping the dome of St. Peter's at Rome by 40 feet, and St. Paul's by 100 feet. The Catholics of New York have already, in St. Patrick I ' s Cathedral, on Fifth Avenue, one of the most b;eaoiti:ful and commjodiotis churches in America ; but since it was built the Catholic population of that city, and of America at large, has increased almost three times over.
