January 12. Rev. Father Clune, C.SS.R., is conducting the retreats of tine religious. St Benedict's Church debt has, during the past twelve months, been reduced by the sum of £200. Rev. Mr. Bpudier, who was the architect of the Suv a Cathedral, arrived from the Islands last evening. He is proceeding to Moanee to study for the priesfthood. Iti is umderstood that his Grace the Archbishop of Melbourne, his (irace the Coadjutor-Archbishop of Sydney, and their Lordships Bishops Reville a^nd Dunne lea»ve Syfdney in the ' Zealandia/ and should arrifve in Auckland on Sunday next. They will be the guests of his Lordship Dr. Leftiiihan, who has already arranged for the distinguished party's visit to Rotorua. At Avondiale last Tuesday evening a meeting of the parisihioners was held at which the Rev. Father Gillan presided. There was a good attendance. The Rev. dhaiTm|an explained the position of affairs;. A liability of nearly £140 remained on the land. It was necessary to redfuce this before a start could be made with a building suitable as a residence for the Sisters of St. Joseph. In this building a large room could be made in which school would be taught and Mass celebrated. These arrangements would suit the requirements of the parish for the time being. St. Ibar's branch of the H.A.C.B. Society met las fc Monday eveming in St. Benedict's Schoolroom, tihe vicepresident, Bro. Corb'ett, in the chair. There were alsio present Rey. Father Gillan, district president Bro. Little, and district treasurer Bro. M. J. S(heahan, all of whom addressed the meeting, and dwelt upon the malny. and great advantages to be derived from membership in the Hibernian Society. All present resolved to wprk assiduously to increase the membership of the branch-. Rev. Father Gilla v n assured the members that he would assist tlhem in every possible way. The nomination of officers for the ensuing term was, by an oversight, left until next meeting' on the 23rd inst. It was decided to commem'oriate the first anniversary of the opening of the branch next mjontih with a euchre party, and to deyote the net proceeds to St. Benedict's organ fund. St. Patrick's branch of t,he H.A.C.B. Society at its last meeting elected the following officers for the ensuing term :— President, Bro. M. J. Sheahan ; vice-presi-dent, Bro. Jofhh O'Brien ; secretary, Bro. W. Kane (reelected) ; trefcislurer, Bro. D. Flynn (re-elected) ; warden, Bro. Thos. Pound ; guardian, Bro. A., Walsjh ; sick visitor, Bro. C. MulhoHand : auditors, Bros. JaS. Smith and F. O'Meara ; assistant secretary, Bro. J. B. R. Stead. The installation of officers was performed by the outgoing president, Bro. C. Little, who spoke encouragingly tto each officer and impressed upon them tho necessity of attending all meetings of the branch, and furthing in every wiay the interests of the Society.
