Louden, January 13.— The wheat markets are reco\ering from the holiday inactivity. The tone is steady owing to the smaller shipment. Prices are improved about 3d. Cargjoes are quiet, and holders are firm, asking 33/- £or passage shipment. Flour is quiet and steady. London, 25/3 to 25/9 ; Glasgow, 26/3 to 26/9. Butter is steady. Australian and New Zealand is practically cleared. Prices are unchanged except for a few fancy bianyls. Australian, 100/- ; New Zealand 102/-, ; Danish (weak). 108/-. Cheese is very firm. New ZeaLajnd, 52/- to 58/-.
Wellington, January 16.— The Department of Industry and Commerce has re.eLved the following cablegram from the AgonMJeneral, dated Londo.ii, 13th imst. :— Stocks of New Zealand mutton on hand are light, but sale is dull for all descriptions of mutton. The average price to-day for Canterbury is 4 3d ,per lb , other brands North Island mutton, 4*gd A small shipment of lamb realii>cd 6^d. Beef is very dull. The average price tor hindquarteis is from 3d tio i\A. Butter is firm. The aAetage price of choicest New Zealand i-^ 100/- per cwt. Cheese is steady. The average price for finest New Zealand cheese is 52/- per cwt. Hemp is quiet, and prices are slightly weaker. There is scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed. The average pricq for bright, clean New Zealand seed, weighing I7!b to tihe buvhel, on spot, is^ 50/- per bushel, qjit the quotation is only nominal. The next series of wool sales commences on the 17th inst. The total quantity offered will be not less than 145,0,00 bales, which will include 29,000 from New Zealand. There is every indication of an aid vance in all grades of crossbred wool.
