Oh Sunday, July, 3, of the present year, a remarkable article appeared in leading newspapers of all the big cities of the United States. It was headed in the * >Spri!ngiield Republican ' ' Superstition in Swit/eilaind ', ijn the St. Lotuis " Pi,c*neer Press,' ' Tortured for Superstition Sake ' and ' Priests Torture Swi»s 'Girl,' ' Barbarous Treatment of Me»nriette Gay by the Catholic dhucch,' etc., in refutable journals of New York, Bostjom, Qhica.go, Ci-nciinn'ati, St. bo/vis, Detroit, euc. At tJie tune of its publication the International Uattoolic Tcutih Society, through its members m various place®, questioned its truth, poUnUng O'lit one or two apparent inaccuracies. IBowever, unless authoritative informiatioin is at hia'nd denials jure unavailing agaihst positive statements. The International Catholic Truth Society is now in possession of sjucja information, a»nd although ctoßisijderable time has elapsed the wide publicity gi\en by the newspaper*, of sending all over tlhe land to this corresjpanßtfice, c>3l)yrigh'tad by Curtis Brown, klemAmds the publication of tlhe real facts. When these are kiiDwn, let ius hlope that the daily press of the United States will hesitate hi future to print without verificatiicm a 1 conrespon|lence ' so rilled with statemeints derogatory to tlhe Catholic Church.
