Miss CartwritOit received her musical education at the Dominican Convent,- Oamaru There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Patrick's Basiilica, South Dunedin, on Sunday last. Throughout the day members of the congregation attended t m large numbers, and in the evening the basilica was crowded. A procession of the religious sodalities took place at the conclusion of the sermon, which was preached by the Key. Father Delany (Holly Cross College). The Rejv. Fatyher Corcoran officiated at Vespers. Holders of books of tickets i n St. Dominic's Priory art union are earnestly requested to dispose of them as soon as possible as the drawing will positively take place on December 9. The object of the art union should appeal to the generosity of the Catholics of ihe city as it is to enable the Dominican Nuns to liquidate the debt incurred in the erection of the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. Apart altogether from the object the chance of securing one of the many valuable prizes offered should be an, inducement .to assist in the good work. On Tuesday of last week the Dominican Nuns entertained the stallholders and assistants who took part in the late successful Daffodil Fair at a pleasant social evening in the Dominican Convent. The pupils of the nuns treated the visitors to a very nicely arrange*! jnogramme consisting of pianoforte solos and duets and songs, whiclh were greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Refreshments were served during an interval in the proceedings, at the close of which Miss Staunton, on behalf of the visitors, expressed their thanks to the Sisters and pupils for the enjoyable musical treat they had given them, and siaid they all felt pleased at the success which atftended the Fair,.

Or. Monday and Tuesday evenings BoucicaultPs stirring Irish drama, ' Arrah na Pogue " will be staged in the Princess Theatre for the benefit of the funds of that most deserving institution, Ihe St. Vincent de Paul Orphanage, South Dune.din It is unnecessary for .us to remind our readeis of the noble work which is carried out at the orphanage by the Sisters of Mercy, who are providing a home for between sf() and 60 'children, arid ior the maintenance ot more than half of whom they have to depend on the generosity of Ihe public It is now several yeais since the orphanage was opened, and during that lime it has done work that has received unsitintcd praise. In order to assist the Sisters in their work of benevolence and to meet the increasing demands on the resources of the institution, the committee again appeal with confidence to "ihe charitable public to assist them by patronising the annual entertainment. Apart altogether fiom the excellence of the object the programme in itself will be wejl worth generous patronage. It is a play abounding in dramatic situations, the dialogue is witty and sparklimg, and it will be presented in a manner worthy of its author and of the charity for which it is to be given. The characters will be taken by some of ttie leiadmg amateurs m the city, and, as it" has been well rehearsed, its production should prove a iirst-clas,s evening's enjoyment. To add to the attractiveness of 'Jie play new and appropriate scenery has been painted foi the occasion, and the committee are leaving nothing undone to make it a thorough success from e\ery point of view. We feel confident tho public will do their part in t/heir usually generous manner.
