The Late Father Fauve!, S.M.

The Sydney ' Catholic Press ' gives the following particulars of the death of Rev. Father Fauvel, S.M., which took place at St. Vincent's Hospital early on Tuesday morning, Au'gus-t 30 :—

Fatiher Fauvel was in his 74th year, and was born at Constances, Nitfrmamdy, in the N'ortfh of France. Fortythree or forty-four years of his life were spent in the Marist mission's. He was stationed at Fiji for about nine years, but his health brake down, and he was obliged to come to Villa Maria to recuperate. After a few months he was strong erioUgh to proceed to New Zealand, where he remained for 30 years, the wjitole of which time he lived in Temuka, South Canterbury district, in the diocese of Christfchurch.

For the past four or five years Father Fauvel had been iai declining health, having suffered from an affection of the heart. He came to Sydney about throe months 1 ago, aiterwa'nds going to New Caledonia, where he remained three weeks, returning here six weeks back. He was at Mit'tagong for a month, where the Sisters of St. Josenh kindly visited and attended him. A week ago, realising that his end was approaching, he requested the Marist Fathers to remove him to St. Vincont'.s Hosnital He received every attention at the hands of the Sisters of Charity and the medical staff, but he w;is bovond human skill.

Feeling that death was near rtn Tuesday mornhig he arose from his bed and went to the room of Rev. Father Kolnnedv, wno is also an innvate of the Hospital, and asked (him for the last rites of the Church. He then retlunned -bo his room, a*nd, taking his crucifix in one hahd and a small statue of the Blostsed Virgin in the other, he 'stretched himself on his bed and breathed ins last at 4.30 a m.

(Superior Villa Maria), and P. T,rea;nd (Superior of the Missionaries of the Sacred I loaf t), Rev. Fathers L. Rigard, S.M., J. B. Chevreuil, S.M., J. De Marzan, S.M., and Laurent, S.M. The other priesfts who as-sisted were the Very Rev. Father * F. Huault, S.M. (Procurator o f the Mar is. t Missions), Rev. Fathers P. Piquet, S.M., J. Muai.lt, S.M. 1 and, E,. Englert, S.M. The fmneral left aafter the lasit absolutions had been pronounced for the Field of Mars Cemetery, the interment neitog rmade in a portion of the cemetery dedicated to the Maristi Fathers. The Very Rev. Father Placirte Ituault, S.M., ofUciated at the grave. The Marist Father^ and Brothers of the Community attended. The Yen. Archpriest Sheehy, 0.5.8., of St. Charles', Ryde, was also preselht at t<he graveside.
