The parishioners of Devonport have purchased a nice presbytery and grounds for their parish priest, the Rev Father Meagher It is situated in the western pai t ion of the marine s*uburb, and will add materially to the paiish property.
A beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin has been purchased by the Rev. Father O'ilara, of Otahuhu, and has arrived from Australia. His Lordship the Bishop is expected to unveil it next Sunday week tn the parish church at Otahuhu.
The Rev Father Wust is organising a brass band at Xgaruawahia, and is to act as bandmaster. The Rev. Father has had considerable musical experience, and in Java he conducted a splendid band L'pon all sides the Rev Father is meeting with success, and under his diiectiou the band .should very soon be in active work.
A musical a,nd dramatic entertainment wa.s given last eumiig m St jUaiy's Hall, Onchunga, by the pupils of the Convent School Despite the inclemency of the weather there was a very good attendance, and the \oi_al, instrumental, and dramatic performances of the pupils were highly appreciated The Sisters oE Mercy and their pupils deserve the highest commendation
The Sai red Ileait College first fifteen football team has done tairly well this season Though beaten twice, it has turned the table 5 upon one of its former conquciors, the (Jrammar School The appearance of the bo\ s from the Sacred Heart College is the s-übject id fa\oiable comment by the spectators each Saturday. .Much credit is due to Mr. (icotgc Tyler, the New Zealand representative footballer, for the great interest he has taken in coaching the boys
The Auckland branch of the II A C B Society celehratcd its "list anniversary last Monday evening in the Hibernian Hall by a piogressive euchre party, which ■was interspersed witii musical items Refreshments were handed round by the committee, which consisted of Bro (' Little (president), Bio George Rice (vice-presi-dent), Bro 1) Flvnn (treasurer), Bro. Stead (assistant secretary), and Bros Jones, J. Mulholland, C. Mulholland, and J. O'Brien. Bro. E. Lonergan prepared the musical programme, and Bro W Kane superintended the general arrangements. The first pri/es were won by Miss M. J Mcllbone and Bro. J. McCarthy. Vocal solas wcie rendered by Misses M Duthn and N Ris<t, and a duet, ' Let Erin remember,' by Messrs. Pritchard and Coughlan Miss Julia Rist played the accompaniments in an able manner All agreed that a most enjoyable evening was spent.
