On Monday evening o' last week (says the ' Alexandra Herald') the Alexandra Orchestral Society paid a visit to Mrs. J. J. O'Kane (the Society's late pianist), at her residence, Tarbert street., Alexandra. Alter a few selections were played by the Society and a couple of songs given by Mr. A. G. Murphy, Mr. J. 1). Thomson, on behalf of the Society, presented Mrs. O'Kane with^a silver gong and stand, with ladies' and gents' brushes attached. MY. Thomson, in making the presentation, referred to Mrs. O'Kane as a capable and hard-working member of the Society, and he said that the Society's success was, to a great extent, due to her assistance. Mr O'Kano, in responding on behalf oi Mrs. O'Kane, said that he thought the present a very beautiful one, and that both Mrs. O'Kane and he would treasure it as long as they were spared, also that they would always keep a warm corner in their hearts for the Society, which they both admired, and would do all in their power to further its interests. Mr. J. R. Cairns and Mr. A. A. Briasco (conductor) also spok,e of Mrs. O'Kane's sterling qualities, and of the good work performed by her when an active member of the A.O.S. The gong was inscribed as follows : 'To Mrs. J. J. O'Kane on the occasion of her marriage, from the Alexandra Oichestral Society. Alexandra, July 6th, 1903.'
