London, July 7.— The fifth series of colonial wool sales will be limited to 140,000 bales, and the sixth series will be unlimited. The wool sales opened brisk, prices being from par to 7£ per cent, advance on the closing sales of the last series. At the wool sales Messrs. Buxtons and Ronald, Balm and Co., and Jacomb and Son offered 9805 bales, threequarters of the offerings being New Zealand. There was a full attendance of buyers. Compared with the May series the prices for merinos and fine crossbreds remained unchanged. Medium coarse crossbreds were fully 7£ per cent, dearer, the home trade keenly competing for crossbreds. At the tallow sales 102R casks were offered, and 434 sold. Mutton : Fine, 29s 9d ; medium, 28s. Beef • Fine 31s ; medium, 28s.
