April 20. The Very Rev. Father Keogh, S M., Rector of St. Patrick's College, is at present in Christchurch.

The Rev. Father Hogan, of Dookie, Victoria, made a short stay whilst passing through tho city on his way homeward.

A bazaar in aid of the Hawarden parish undertakings was opened at Amberley on last Friday evening, and was continued on Saturday. Dr. Crooke, medical superintendent of the Christchurch Hospital, presided at the Pro-Cathedral organ morning and evening on Sunday.

A church parade of the Permanent Artillery was held at the Pro-Cathedral on Sunday, when a detachment under Lieut-Colonel Hume attended the 11 o'clock Mass. During the course of his sermon the Rev. Father O'Connell made appropriate allusion to the life and duties of a soldier.

There was a successful sale of work and musical entertainment in the Midland salerooms, Sockburn, on last Thursday evening, in aid of St. Mary's presbytery building fund. An attractive programme, under the direction of Mr. 11. Rossiter, was contributed to by Misses N. Slattery, M. Oahill, Messrs Dillon, J. Shanley, J. Cameron, W. Inkstone, and J. Mackay. The Rev. Father Marnane cordially thanked the performers and the ladies of Hornby for their generous assistance, the monetary benefit to the object of their efforts being considerable. A bazaar was opened in the Hanmer Public Hall on Easter Monday evening and continued on tho following Tuesday, to help in providing funds for the erection of a Catholic rhurch in this increasingly-popular health resort. The Roy. Fathers Hyland (Rangiora) and Price (Hawarden) were in attendance, and amongst those who took part in the bazaar work and musical arrangements were Mrs. A. Mead, Mrs. and Miss Bryant (Christchurch), Mrs. Early (Ternuka), and Miss O'Carroll (Hawardon), all of whom journeyed up for tho occasion. Mrs. P. Selig, of Christchurch, who was a visitor at tho Springs, performed splendid work both at the bazaar and in her efforts towards inducing patronage from without, and, together with Mr. Selig, who rendered valuable assistance, is worthy of very warm thanks Mr. Smith, of Wellington, enlivened the proceedings with his graphophono. Those taking par-t in the event speak in terms of gratitude for the universal kindness extended towards them by the residents of Hanmer, notably Mr. and Mrs. Hood. A sum of about £50 was realised in aid of tho object of their endeavors.

An open air carnival and bazaar arranged by tho parishioners of Leestpn, under the direction of the Rev. lather Croggan, in aid of the local church requirements, was held on the Leeston Recreation Grounds, commenolV g i on r^. The attendance was very satisfactory throughout, especially on the general holiday The attractions included the usual stalls, booths, and side shows, the Ellesmere Brass Band supplying the requisite music. The proceeds were upwards of £100, the success of the undertaking being mainly attributable to Mr. F. J. Holley, who was an energetic honorary secretary, and the committee of management. At the wind-up of the carnival the balance of the goods not sold privately Was auctioned. Tho various attractions were presided over as follows :— Refreshment booth, Mrs. Bohan ; fancy goods stall (No. 1), Mesdames Thos. Holley, F. J. Holley, and A Fay • No. 2 stall, Mesdames John O. Boyle, J Holley Mrs McCloy, and Miss M. Fay and the Misses O Boyle (3) ; flower and produce stall, Mesdames Dierck and Stapleton and Miss Stapleton ; bran pie, Miss O Boyle and Miss Bohan ; fishing pond, Misses M. and N. O Boyle- ; Aunt Sally, Messrs. T. Holley and J. Flanagan ; phonograph, Mr. R. E. Brooke. Messrs. Scott and Brown, electrical engineers, Christchurch, installed a good electric light display, lighting up the grounds all over A programme of bicycle and athletic events, and children's sports was gone through on Easter Monday afternoon, thereby adding a varied interest to the proceedings.
