London, January 20. — The first series of colonial wool sales for the current year opened with brisk bidding. Prices ruled from par to 10 per cent, advance on closing sales of last \ear. There was a good attendance, including many Americans. There was spirited eoranctition for till sorts. Compared with the closing sales of the December series, merinos were unchanged, and merino lambs advanced 5 per cent. Fine crossbreds advanced 5 per cent , medium 10 per cent , and lambs 10 per cent. Sydney, January 21 — At the wool sales the competition for all good classes was very keen. Prices were firm. Scoured sold up to 25d — a record for the season.
