Father Hull, S J., writing in the ' Monitor ' (London), gives the following interesting Btati&tios regarding the Catholic Church in Ireland :—: — The total population of Ireland is roughly about 4,500 000. From Propaganda report of 1901 the Catholic population is about 3,500,000. The Catholic Directory of 1901 shows that there are in Ireland 28 bishcp3, 101K) parit-hee, 1010 parish priests, 1869 administrators, cuates, and other pries c ; 657 priests of the regular clergy (total of priestP, 3438) ; parochial aud district church*? 2434 ; house? of religious priestn, 84 ; of monks, 122 ; of nun?, 34 1' From three figures, taken in round numbers, the followiD"- rough results seem to follow :—: — " One church for every 1400 of the Catholic population. One parit-h for every 3500 of the Catholic po ulatiou.' One parish priest and one or two curates for every 3500 of the Catholic population. One parochial priest for every 1700 of the Catholio population. One priett, tejular or religious, for every 1000 of the Catho'ic population.
