HIDE SALES.
Messrs Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows :—: — We held our usual fortnightly auction sale at our stores', Crawford street, on Thursday, 11th inst . when the trade was fully repiescntcd, and bidding for all classes was very keen. We are pleased to be able to renort that the market, taken all round, is firm at late rates and would like to impress upon those interested that the quotations given below are for hides actually sold by us, and are in no case used nominally or based on prices obtained by other agents. Our catalogue comprising 308 hides and 51 yearling and calfskins, was cleared under good competition, and amongst others we sold . for Mr W. Gilchrist (Timaru), ox hides averaging 7511., at 63d ; Mr William Duke (of George street) ox hides, averaging 701 bin splendid order, at 6-fd ; Messrs fc>carf and Cookson (Timaru), one hide, 731 b, at 6-Jd • Mr W. Bain (Fail-lie), ox hides, 70IT>, at 6£d, the purchasers in each of these cases being Messrs Remshardt and Co. There were no very heavy cow- hides forward but we sold good cow at 4}d to 43d ; medium, 3£d to 4|d ; lighit, 3d to>3fd ; cut and damaged hides, 2d to) 2£d ; bull, 2d to 2|d to 2?d ; yearling, Hs 9d to 5s Idbest calfsk,ms, 2s 9d to 3s lid ; otheis, Is 7d to 2s Bd.
