PALMERSTON NORTH.
(From our own correspondent.) November 16. The Ashurst Town Hall was crowded to the doors on Satnrd>y night, 15th inst., to witness the opening of the first Catholic bazaar organised in aid of the funds of St. ColumbaV Church The opening ceremony was performed by Mr W. T. Wood, Mayor of Palmerston, who in a very appropriate speech referred to <,be good object for which the bazaar was being held. There was a bright and varied display of articles on the stalls, and as soon as the proceedings were opened a brisk business began. The following ladies of Aeburst, assisted by their friends from Palmerston, were in charge of the various stalls : — Fancy stalls — Mrs P. Hanlon and Miaseß Kerrigan (3), Hanlon (2), and Selby, Me9dames Sherridan, Littlejohn, and Formley. Produce stall — Mesdames Kerrigan and MoCool. Refreshment Btall — Misses Kerrigan, H ckey, O'Reilly, Hanlon, McAllister, Selby, and Mrs T. Roberts. Fairy well — Miss Selby, assisted by Misses McDonnell (2). Guessing competition — Mr P. Hanlon. Nail driving— Mr P. Kerrigan. The bazaar was continued both on Monday and Tuesday nights with good attendances each evening. The net receipts amounted to £90, which now leaves only a debit balance of £50. The result reflects great credit on the Catholics of the dißtiiot, who opened the handsome little church barely a year ago. His Grace Archbishop Redwood, who paid Palmerston a visit on Saturday last, celebrated the eight o'clock Maßs at St. Patrick's on Sunday, the 15th it.Bt., and preached eloquent sermons both morning and evening. The church was crowded at both services.
Hie Grace will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Patrick's Churoh on Sand ay, December 21. Daring the offertory at Vespers on Sunday last, Mr T. Bodgera Bang with great feeling ' He wipes a tear from every eye.'
