DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND.
(F ooi ixu ow i cones r )ondeTitO November 13. His Lordship, the Right Rev. Dr. Lenihan left on yesterday for the German Seitl merit of Putoi, in which nearly the whole Tei ton population \x Catholic, to olosts the mission carried on there by the Rev. Father Benedict, O.P. Many changes iv the diocesan priers are imminent, particulars of which will bo given in my next letter. Saturday next, Novemher 15, will be the sixth anniversary of the consec ation of the Right Rev. Dr. Lenihan as Bishop of Auckland. Rev. Fathers Furlong, Toomey, and Holbrook, all of whom were recently ordained for this diocese, are expected to arrive here next Saturday from Sydney. Iv is indeed veiy fortunate that the young pri^s s did not conn by the ill-fatfd Elingamite, otherwise they im<*ht have met with a sad and untimely end, or obliged to go through a bitter experience ere reaching Auckland. The Wry Uev. Dean Lightheart commenced a collecting tour r.n behalf of the Maori iniH-ion, conducted by the Fathers of St. Joseph, of which he is the Superior, in St. Patrick's Cathedral last feunnay. The Dean addressed thtr congregation at all the Masses and at, Vespers, and as a result collected £40. Dean Lightheart contemplates going further afield on behalf of the Maori mission, when I ho^.e his labor will be amply rewarded. Nothing in talked of locally but the awful wreck of the E'ingamite. It was a pitying sight to nee the papsenpers and crew land from the Za^landia yesterday afternoon. Th.iir appearance betokened the terrible experienca they had endured.
