HASTINGS.

September 22.
His Grace the Archbishop arrived in Hastings on Thursday evening by express train on hie episcopal visit to this parish. On Fiiday morning he visited the convent schools. On Sunday morning the episcopal visitation took place, followed by High Mass, whioh was sung by Dr. Kennedy, S.M., of Meanee Seminary. His Grace preaohed on the duty of assisting regularly at Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion often, also the importance of Catholic education. He expressed his high appreciation of the zeal and energy of the Very Rev. Father Smythe, parish priest, the result of which was seen in the beautiful church, presbytery, convent, and schools. To the nuns he expressed his sincere gratitude for the high standard of efficiency the children had attained under their care. Eat'a Mass was rendered by the choir in a creditable manner. The organist, Miss Lee, Bang at the Offertory ' Aye Verum ' in her usual devotional style. After Mass his Grace briefly addressed those about to be confirmed on the importance of the Sacrament, after whioh 100 children and 10 adults were confirmed.
In the evening Solemn Vespers were sung hy the Rev, Dr. Kennedy, the church being crowded. His Grace preached a beautiful discourse on the Blessed Sacrament, being appropriate to the procession of the Blessed Sacrament whioh took place afterwards. Mr Vickers, who in gifted with a fine bass voice, sang ' Nazareth ' in devotional style. The altar was beautifully decorated for the ocoasion.
