(From our own correspondent.) September 12. From advice received by the last Home mail T learn that the Very Rev. Dean Muhnney'b hea th has griatly improved. Exposition of the Bl"e?ed Sacrament wash Id at Rfc Mary of the Angels' on Sunday last. A Urije number of worshippers visited the church during the day. Rev. Father Ainsworth returned to town on Thursday evening. A priTate cable was received this week stating that the Very Rev. Dr. Waiters, formerly Rector ot St. Patrick's College, had been appointel Rector of the Catholic University College of the Manst Fathers, Dublin. Theannual social of St. Joseph's Orphanage was held at the Choral Hall on Wednesday when there was a large attendance, including the priestsof both parishes. Songs and instrumental iteuis were given by Miss Driscoll, Meßsr3 J. Woodward, W. Tabor and H. Oakee. Through the courtesy of Mr Dix, Messrs Callaghan and Mack, Irish comedians, gave a quarter of an hour's entertainment on the flute and Irish pipes of well-known Irish airs. The pipes, too Beldom heard in Wellington, were played in a masterly manner by Mr CBllaghan, and the performance was greeted with cheers. The thanks of the management are due to thete gentlemen for their kindly offer of assistance. An excellent supper was provided by the ladieß of both parishes. The dance music was provided by Mr Oakes' orchestra. Mr E. G. Walsh, of Blenheim, who came to Wellington for medical treatment early this week, died suddmly at the Trocadero on Thursday afternoon. A constable noticed the deceased leaning against a building on the quay and Gn enquiring he cause found the gentleman was ill and assisted him into the building. A doctor was summoned but before he arrived Mr Walsh had expired. Dr Walker of Blenheim telegraphed that the deceased was Buffering from heart disease, and was for some time bjing treated for this ailment. Mr Walnh was a member of the Hibernian Society and the local branch haß made arrangements to bend his remains to Blenheim.— R IP. The report of the Government Inspector on the Dixon street Convent school examination t-bows that out of 120 pupils presented 123 passed. In all standards the class subjeots are marked 1 satisfactory' with arithmetic and reading ' especially commended. The additional subjects, singing and needlework, are marked ' very good.'
