PALMERSTON NORTH.

(From our own correspondent.) September 6. The Yen. Archdeacon Devoy haa been the guest of the Rev. Father Tymona for the paßt week. On Sunday last he preached to a crowded congregation at the 11 o'clock Mass an eloquent sermon on the Blessed Eucharist. At Vespers the Yen. Archdeacon again preached, taking 1 as his text ' What would it profit a man if he gained the whole world anl suffered the loss of his own soul ' or ' What will man take in exchange for his soul.' The Palmerston North Amateur Operatic Society, under the baton of Mr Arundle Orchard, M.H., gave a very creditable performance of Gilbert and ISulhvan's latest opera ' Utopia Limited,' for the first time before a New Zealand audience, on Tuesday, Wednesday aud Thursday evenings, at the Theatre Royal. Their efforts were highly appreciated, and their entire takings amounted to over £120 fi>r the season. Mr Thos. Rodgers, of St. Patriok'B choir, filled very creditably tlie role of Captain Fitz Battleax.
