TROOPER JOHN BOURKE, OXFORD.

On Friday, 22nd instant (writes an Oxford correspondent) the mortal remains of trooper John Bourke, of the Eighth N.Z Contingent son of Mr David Bourke, of E«t Oxford, were oonsigned to their last resting place in the oametery, Oxford. The deceased died of pneumonia at the quarantine enoampnent, Wollington, on the 18ch mst., after returning from South Africa. The remains were forwarded from Wellington by the Defence Department in the custody of two Permanent Artillerymen, and were interred here with military honors. The funeral services at ; the Cbnrch of the Sacred Heart and at the graveside were oonduotei by Rev. On August 3 there passed away at Terrace View, near Waimea, a highly respected resident in the person of Mr David Cooney. The deceased had lived in Waimea Plains for 21 years, and had been held in the highest esteem by all his neighbors. In his lait illness. he was attended by the Rev. Father Keenan, who also conducted the service at the graveside, being assisted by the Rev. Father O Donnell. The long conoourse of mourners at the funeral was a testimony of the respect in which the deceased was held. Colette Harrington, a member of the Order of Meicy, Ponsonby, and nieoe of Mr Hayward, of Christohurch, Canterbury. The deceased Sister had been Buffering for some time past from bronohial asthma, and was under the care of Dr. Darby. Her death took place on Tnuwday morning at the Convent, Parnell. Tne remains were taken to St. Mary's Convent, Ponsonby, where a solemn Requiem Man» was offered for her soul by the Rev, Father Purton, 0.5.8. His Lordship the Bishop was present, and spoke some words of sympathy to the sorrowing Sisters, eulogising the virtues of the deceased, most ©onspicuoua among which were the unostentatious, conscientious diecharge of her duties and her gentleness, whioh endeared her to all who knew her. Among those present were the Very Rev. Dr. Egan, 0.5.8., Rev. Father Tickell, 0.P., Rev. Father Buckley (St. Patrick's), and Rev. Father McGuinness (St. Benedict's) The musio of the Mass was sung by the convent choir —M.f.P. BISTER MARY DYMPNA, TEMUKA. Sieter Mary Dympna (Miss O'Shea, of Dingle, County Kerry), one of the religious of the Order of St. Joseph, at the Temuka Convent, die! on the 21tt inst after a long illness. In the evening (writes our Timaru correspondent) the remains were taken to the church, and on Friday morning a Solemn Requiem Mass waa celebrated by the Rev. Father Fauvel, S.M., who was assisted by the Rev. Fathers Regnault (Waiinate), O'Donnell (Queenstown), Tubman (Timaru), Kerley (Temuka), and the Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell (Aahburton), the music being rendered by the Convent choir. At 2 p.m. the funeral took place, a large number of the parishioners being present, who, together with the school children made a very lengthy cortege. As the coffin left the chnrch the Dead March in ' Saul ' was played by Miss M. Twomey, organist.—
