(From our own correspondent.) February 22. His Lordship Bishop Lenihan left for Auckland on Wednesday last. The Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Association hold their annual meeting next Monday evening. The first term of St. Patrick's College began with 89 pupils— 65 boarders and 24 day boys. The Marißt Brothers' Old Boys' Association is having a fullsized billiard table placed in St Patrick's Hall. Rev. Father J. Taylor arrived on Tuesday evening and has commenced his duties at St,. Patrick's College. His Grace Archbishop Redwood arrived from the South today. He leaves early in the week for Ma&terton to open the ' Carnival.' Signor Borzoni, who is at present in Masterton, received from Dunedin this week the ' electrical marionettes ' which will be used in the doll dance during the bazaar. Very Rev. Dean MoKenna conducted the services on Sunday last at Eketahuna, Rev. Father Delach at Te Nui , and Rev. Father Cahill at Masterton. Dean McKenna, *ho has acted as chaplain to the Maeterton Mounted Infantry Corpi for some time past, received thia week his commission from the hands of the Premier. Mr. C. Irvine, of Misterton, has jusc finished a portrait painting of Dean McKenna. It is an excellent likeness and is intended for a prize in the art union to be held in connection with the coming carnival.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was held at the Church of the Sacred Heart on Sunday last. Rev. Father Cianoy celebrated the last Mass and preached at Vespers. A procession of the Blessed Sacrament was also held. Sergeant John O'Donovau, of the local police foroe and instructor of the probationers' class, is about to receive the rank of "sub-inspector. This officer is one of the most capable in the Colony, v and was the first member of the force to pass the Solicitors' General Knowledge examination. The following pupils of St. Patrick's College were successful at the Junior Civil Service examinations : J . P. Larkin, Vincent Yenning, Michael Fennell, and|V. H. Garrey. From the Mar is t Brothers' School, Charles Casey. J. J. Butler, and John Cullen passed, and from St. Francis Xavier's Academy, Florence Moran, Madge Pollock, Gwendoline Darnell, and Martha Slattery. The Wanganui Education Board has had under discussion the case of Miss N. Dwyer, a scholarship holder, who aßked that the scholarship might be taken out at the Wanganui Convent High School. Dean Kirk also wrote to the Board on the subject. The matter was discussed at the last meeting of the Education Board, and it was decided to reply that scholarship-holders could not obtain secondary education at private schools, the Wanganui ConTent High School being deemed to be such. Mr, Spindle, a member of the Board, feelingly expressed his opinion on the matter, and said that no distinction should be made between the Convent and the Collegiate school wherein similar scholarships are held. The third annual meeting of St. Mary's Convent ex-pupils' Association was held on Monday evening, when there was a fair attendance of members. The Mother Superior, who is president, waa in the chair. A satisfactory report and balance sheet were read by the secretary. The latter showed that the debt on the cottage at Titahi Bay has been greatly reduced, a little over £100 still remaining to be paid. The report urged members to do all in their power to further the interests of the association. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows : President, Rev. Mother Superior (re-eleoted) ; vice-presidents, Mrs. McCarthy and Miss McDonald ; treasurer, Miss Duignan ; secretary, Miss Williams (re-elected) ; committee, Mrs. Chapman, Misses O'Connor, Collins, Sheehan, Saunders, and Redmond. The judging in the doll dressing and cushion competition was postponed until March 22.
