(From our own correspondent.) January 17. The Marist Brothers left for Wellington on Monday last to attend their annual retreat. Rev Bro. Augustine, though not completely restored to health, has so far improved as to be able to undertake the long railway journey. Rev. Father Gartlan, S.J., Rector of Riverview College, Sydney, i 8 at present preaching a retreat to the Sisters. On Sunday evening the distinguished visitor preached a splendid sermon in the interests of the Apostleship of Prayer, basing his remarks on the lat of St. John ill., 18 : — 'My little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue, but in deed and in truth.' Mr. Ballance, of Wellington, assisted the choir on Sunday morning, and in the evening rendered the solo, ' Calvary,' with great effect. Several capable judges have expressed themselveß as being highly pleased with this young vocalist's well trained baritone voice. The popularity of the Wanganui River aa a pleasure resort is year by year becoming more apparent. For several weeks past, there has been a daily service, and hundreds of visitors from all parts of the world have availed themselves of the exceptional opportunities of enjoying the scenery of 'New Zealand's Rhine.' Among the recent visitors were his Grace the Archbishop, and Rev. Father G-artlan, Sydney. His Grace returned to Wellington on Saturday.
