ST. MARY'S HIGH SCHOOL, CHRISTCHURCH.
(From our Christchur h correspondent.) The annual prize distribution of St. Mary's High school, Colombo street, conducted by the Sisters of Mercy, was held on Friday afternoon. His Lordship Bishop Grimes presided, there beii g also piesent a number of clergy and a large attendance of parents and friends. The Bishop gave a short address, coi\gratulatiig the school upon its excellent work. He hI-^o made some remarks r m the connection between home training and the t?aohing receiver! by the chil Iren at school, strongly emphasising the reo»»-*ity that children should assume a proper spirit of r..pp'ct in thi ir l>orue circle. An excellent musical and dramatic programme was give.n by the pupils if the school. The vocal and instrumental abilities of the performers were of an order that is only occasionally seen in school children, and reflected very high credit upon the teaching of the SLsttrs, Some of tbe young a-ties^es in the little comedy 'Aunt Maxwell's Return,' showed almost professional talent. The pinging class rendered two choruses with commendable brightness and spirit. Piano duets, which figured Lively on the programme, were played by Misses K. Molloy, M. Turner, "V. Shaw, D. Mansfield, F. Flynn. A. Mahon, A. Nelson, N. Bowen, M. Knox, H. Flynn, M. Robins, N. R >bins, F. Thomson, R, Winny, G. Smith, L. Simpson, M. Brown, L. Joyce, and N. Turner. The first movement of 'Duseek's Sonata ' was brilliantly executed by Misses F. Thomson and Ruby Winny, another pleasing item being a prettily sung trio, ' The restless sea,' by Misses M. Robins, M.
