(From our own correspondent.) October 26. Very Rev Dean Mahoney, of Nekon, left early this vreek on hia way to Rotor ua. A short mission is being held at Makara by his Grace tbe Archbishop. Rev. Father 8. Mahoney who has been with the Archbishop in hin missions, will assist in the Te Aro parish until the end of the year. > Very general T regret is felt at the death of Constable John Madden which occurred at Pleasant Point this week. His funeral takes place to-day. — R.I.P. Rev. Father Cahill has been appointed pariah priest 'of the following distriota in the Wairarapa— Greytown, Featherston, Carterton and Martinborough. Formerly these districts were in Dean McKenna's parish but were separated from it recently. The Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy from Meanee, is to deliver a Fpientific lecture on 'Pond life' at St. Patrick's College on next Friday evening. The lecture is to be illustrated by lantern pictures. Fully 3000 Catholics joined in the Thorndon Jubilee procession on Sunday last. The same route was taken as on the previous occasion. At St. Joseph's Church, the last one visited, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given by hia Grace the Archbishop. Steinforth's 'O Salutaris' was beautifully sung by the Rev. Father Hills, who also oonducted a choir of St. Patrick's College boys. The weekly meeting of the Marist Old Boys' Literary Society was held on Monday evening last. The Rev. Father Goggan presided. The evening was devoted to a discussion on Napoleon, and was most pleasantly spent. The annual picnic of the Association is to be held on the King's Birthday. The arrangements are all in a forward state and present indications point to the outing being a great success. The Old Boys have formed a tennis club and are now busily engaged forming a court behind the Boulcott street Church. They hope to have the court completed to*'a^ the end of November. The arrangements in connection with the 'Trial by Jury ' entertainment are now complete and invitations will shortly be issued by the Association. The largest congregation yet seen in the Church of the Sacred Heart assembled on Sunday evening when the mission held during the week wan brought to a clo&e. After the Rosary his Grace the Archbishop addressed the congregation and took for hia text ' He that perseveres to the cud will be s>aved.' He pointed out the two chief means of perseverance, anil ppoke of the great results that had been achieved by the mission. It was, he said, very edifying to Bee the numbers that received Holy Communion that morning, he was pure the blessing of God would rest upon them, and concluded by asking the congregation to joiu with him in renewing their baptismal vows. This they did, holding lighted candles in their bandy, and concluding by singing the hymu, ' Faith of our Fathers.' Solemn Pontifical Benediction was given, the Very Rev. Father Lewis, V.G., and Rev. Father Holley being deacon and eubdeaeon respectively.
