UNITED STATES.— Death of a Priest.

Th 9 death is announced at the age of 84 of the Right Rev. Mgr. James M. M'Mahon, at the Catholic University of America, Washington. The deceased clergyman commenced his ecclesiastical studies in Maynooth College, and subsequently proceeded to St. Sulpice, Paris. On deciding to join the American mission he was

appointed to a curacy in New York, and afterwards became Rector of St John's, in that city. When the latter church was destroyed by fire, Father M'Mahon devoted a considerable portion of his means towards rebuilding it. The establishment of the American Catholic University found in him a most ardent supporter, and he left close on half-a-million dollars to the institution.
