ST. JOSEPH'S CLUB, DUNEDIN.

The annual meeting of the members of St. Joseph's Club was held in St. Joseph's Hall. Dunedin, on Wednesday evening of last week. Ilia Lordship Bishop Verdon presided, and there was a representative attendance. Mr .T Hally, hon. secretary, read the annual report prepared by the Executive Committee, who congratulated the members on the fact that the club had been the means of making a boginnint? in encouraging social intercourse among the Catliolics of the Cathedral parish. The membership of the club and its branches was 105, and the executive recommended that the branched and parent club should be amalgamated. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the nine months the club was in existence would show that whilst much had been done, a good deal remained to be done before the financial position became sound. The items, interest on mortgaee and caretaker's salary, did not appear on the statement, and it was hoped that this was the last time bis Lordship the Bishop would be called upon to pay these amounts. There was still a liability of £21 on the piano The executive desired to heartily congratulate the Ladies' Social Club on the assistance rendered by them. Not having sufficient funds the committee were unable, as originally intended, to procure a billiard-table. It was intended to hold a bazaar in October for the purpose of raising funds to liquidate the debt on the building, and it was hoped the incoming committee would take up the matter at once. Regret was expressed at the loss sustained by the club in the departure of the zealous hon. treasurer, Mr A. J. Sullivan, for Cromwell. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed that a sum of £74 Os lid had been received from all sources, and that after meeting all expenses there remained a credit balance of £5 15s Id. The sum of £13 10s 6d had been paid on account on the piano. On tho motion of the Rev. Father Murphy, Adm. St. Joseph's Cathedral, seconled by Rev. Father Cleary, the report was adopted. His Lordship the Bishop said tha be fully approved cf the suggestions made regarding the amalgamation of the different branches, and paid a well-deserved tribute to the work performed by Mr. Ilally during hie teim of office. He hoped the question of a bazaar should be taken up as soon as possible, so that the hall should be freed of debt. The election of the Executive Committee resulted as follows :— Mews. J. B. Callan. P. Hally, L. Clancy, T. Husßey, F. Henderson, J. O'Connor, W. Fulton, D. Columb, and S. Columb. After some suggestions had been made for the guidance of the newly-elected committee a hearty vote of thanks for his services was passed to the retiring secretary.
