WAIHI NOTES.

(From our own correspondent.) August 27. At a meeting of ladies held after the last Mass on Sunday, it was unanimously resolved to co operate with the Paeroa ladies in providing an 'Ohinemuri Stall' at the bazaar to be held at an early date at the Thames in aid of the Thames Hospital. I understand the ladies here are meeting with very substantial support. The weather here lately baa been anything but pleasant. For 10 days it raine'l continually, and for nearly two mouths now there has been very little fine, weather. The Karangahake Dramatic Club were to give the dramatic performance ' Caste' last Saturday evening, in aid of Mr. R. Grant who recently lost hid hand in a blasting accident at Waikino, but owing to tue inclemency of the weather the performance had to be postponed. There is much agitation hore now over the vexed question of residence sites being resumed by the gold mining companies without compensation. Meeting atter meeting has been held, and resolution after resolution passed, till it would take a Philadelphia lawyer to make anything out of them. However, I think this question will soon be di finitely settled to the satibf action of all concerned. I regret to record the death of Mrs. Doniielly, relict of the late Mr. John Donnelly, which took place last Wednesday evening. The deceased lady had been ailing for some time, and recently took a trip to Te Aroha. However, knowing that her end was near she determined to return home, and accompanied by hpr daughter and one of her sons she attempted the return trip on Wednesday evening last, and quietly piseed away during the coach journey between Paeroa and Waihi. The funeral, which was a private one, took place at the Paeroa Cemetery, on Friday, August 24, tne Very Rev. Dean Hackett conducting the service. Deceased leaves two daughters and four sons to mourn their loss. On Sunday evening Very Rev. Dean Hackett made feeling reference to the deceased lady, whom he described as 'an ideal Catholic' A Solemn licqun m Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph's Church this morning. — It. I. P.
