Writes the Melbourne correspondent of the Sydney Freeman's Journal :— ' At the risk of "carrying coals to Newcastle," it may be mentioned that great activity i« being shown here by the committee nominated by the Archbishop to organise the Victorian contingent for the great ecclesiastical event of the closing year of the century — the Australasian Catholic Congress, which, aa you know, ia to assemble in your capital on the Sunday within the Octave of Our Lady's Nativity, 9th September. That impersonation of zeal and activity in Church and other affairs, Dr. A. L. Kenny, K.S.G., ia leaving nothing undone to make Victoria's quota worthy of the Church in thia colony. By the way, I see that our Archbishop is to deliver the sermon on the occasion of the opening of St. Mary's Cathedral. There is certain to ba a large and representative body of olergy and laity from Victoria at the Congress. With his wonted generoßity, bis Eminence is to bear the expense of the week's functions. Like our own venerated prelate, the Cardinal evidently regards himself as merely the guardian and distributor of the monetary offerings of his faithful clergy and laity. There will be clerical and lay representatives at the great assemblage from the Archdiocese and the three suffragan dioceses of the oolony.
