THE CONVERSION OF ENGLAND.

On Tuesday, M*y SO. (writes a correspondent of the New Era) his Eminence Cardinal Vaughan visited the Convent of the Euglieh Canonesses of St Augustine at Neuilly sur Seine, Paris. Having iußt come from Rome, he pave them news of our Holy Father, the Pope, and spoke of his indefatigable energy and zeal in all that concerns the interest of the Church.

The Cardinal expressed himself much pleased with the efforts made by the community for the extension of the Archconfraternity of Our Lady of Compassion for the Conversion of England, and congratulated them on having inscribed on the registers of the Association more than two thousand names.

In speaking of their great work, he said : ' It ia prayer we want now, not controversy, but fervent, persevering prayer.' He added thatthe principal aim of the directors or promoters must be notsimply to have a sf reat many names on their books, but to en I ist the pray ers and go<d works of those who like Father Ignatius Spencer (Pa»sioni«t) would devote themselves heart and 8"ul to the work. His Eminence regretted that as he was returning to England in a few dayß he would not be able to be present at the erection of the Archconf raternity in the convent chapel. This ceremony will take place on Jane 16, and the Superior-General of St. Sulpice, M. l'Abbe" Odelin, Vicar-General, the Passion ist Fathers and many other ecclesiastics will attend. The preacher on one occasion will be M. l'Abbe Billeoocq, of St. Snlpice, In future there will be meetings of the members on the first Friday of each month, when special prayers will be said for the conversion of England. F r 250 years the English Augustinianß have been praying for the return of England to the Faith so that the present work is entirely in accord with their original spirit and the desire of their saintly founders.
