London, March 24. — The wheat market is recovering. There are small inquiries for cargoes of Victorian sailer parcels, JanuaryFebruary shipments at 27s 6J ; steamer parcels, March shipments, 27s 9d. Cold weather and small supplies have had the effect of hardening the butter market. Colonial, 96s to 100s ; Danish. 1 12s. For cheese there is a strong market— New Zealand, s ls. Rabbits are firm at 9.|d. The Agent-General cables : ' Butter, 975, market good. Cheese, 51s, very firm ; small supplies on hand.'
London, March 2G. — Mutton : Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes — Canterbury, 3^d ; Dunedin and Southland, 3 7-16 d ; North Island, 3|d. Lamb — Prime Canterbury, 4^d ; fair average (including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, and secondary Canterbury), 4 3-16 d. River Plate is unchanged. Hemp is in strong demand. Good Auckland and Wellington (April shipment) sold at L 22 10s.
Messrs. Donald Reid and Co. report as follows :—: — Oats. — We submitted a catalogue made up chiefly of sparrowbill and Danish. The attendance of buyers was good, and with moderate demand the bulk of those ottered were quitted al quotations. G-ood to best feed sold at Is 4d to Is 5d ; medium, Is 3d to Is 3£d per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. — The market is unchanged, good to prime milling selling at 2s 3d to 2s 6d. We offered fowl wheat, which met with fair demand and realised Is lid to 2s per bushel (sacks in). Potatoes.— We offered a small selection of Derwents and kidneys, and quote best Dervveats at L 2 to L 2 5s ; kidneys, LI 10s to LI 15s per ton (sacks in). Chaff. — The market was more freely supplied to-day, and in consequence values receded slightly. We sold good to best oaten sheaf at L 2 10s to L 2 15s ; medium to good, L 2 os to L 2 7s Gd per ton (bags extra).
Messrs. Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows :—: — Oats— There is a large quantity coming forward, and prices have declined slightly. Quotations : Milling, lsr>Jd to Is (id ; good to best feed, Is 4d to Is :>d ; medium, Is 2 id to Is I^d per bushel (sacks extra). Barley — There is a good demand for prime malting, but other sorts are neglected. Prime malting, 3s to 3s (id ; medium, 2s 3d to 2s Dd : feed and milling, Is 6d to 2s per bushel (sacks extra). Chaff — The demand for prime continues strong, but other descriptions are hard to place. Prime oaten sheaf, L 2 10s to L 2 ir>s ; medium. L 2 to L 2 7s (id per ton (bags extra). Potatoes— Best Dervvents, L2toL 2 5s ; kidneys, 30s to 3.Js per ton (bags in).
