The Sisterc of Mercy, South Duned'n., acknowledge the receipt of 10a for favour received through St. Anthony. We have much pleasure in recording the success of two New Zealand young gentlemen in the Roman schools during the scholastic year of 1897-DS. In the Theological Faculty, Mr James Kennedy, a former pupil of St. Joseph's School, Dunedin, obtained the highest class of honourable mention in the examinations on dogmatic theology, and also in moral theology ; Mr Daniel Buckley, also a former pupil of the Christian Brothers'' School Dunedin, was j>ro.rt?nc arr<*.wt in mathematics, and in Greek, ard also in the lower class of Gregorian Chant. A public meeting, convened by the Mayor of Dunedin, was held in the lown Hall on Monday evening for the purpose of cmsiderinir a proposal for establishing a memorial to the late Sir George Grey The attendance was not large, only about 40 persons being present' His worship, in opening the proceedings, explained what steps he had taken to call the meeting, and then gave a brief resume of the life and work of the departed statesman. After some discussion in which a divergence of opinion was apparent with reference to the form the memorial should take, it was finally decided that whatever funds should be raised for the purpose here, bhould be applied withm the provice of Otago. The general feeling was that the memorial should take the shape of a scholarship endowment
