On Thursday afternoon last the annual distribution of prizes, to the pupils attending the High School at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy in Colombo street, took place in the parochial school hall. Besides a large number of parents, relatives, and friends of the pupils the Vicar General and the Rev. Fathers Marnane, Goggan, Derby, Kennedy, and Foley were present. A very attractive musical and dramatic programme was creditably rendered by the pupils. After the Rev. Father Marnane had given out the prizes the Vicar-General addressed a few words to the children. He complimented them on the progress made during the past term, and on the programme submitted. He also informed them that their Bishop, the Right Rev. Dr. Grimes, had on that day sailed from Vancouver en route for this colony. The gathering then dispersed. The following is the prize list : — Christian Doctrine : Josie O'Brien, Francis Flynn, and Michael Deamer. Good conduct : Ruby Jackson. Arithmetic : Alice M'Gill, Hilda Flynn, Alice Nelson, and Queenie Hulston. Grammar and composition : Alice M'Gill and Ethel Livingston. Geography : Ethel Livingston, Hilda Flynn, Gipsy Jackson, Nellie Turner, and Gertie Casein. Reading and recitation : May Corson, Maggie Flynn, Louis Loughnan, and Kathleen Molloy. Spelling : Mary MoJloy, Maud Ca&sin, Patience Wassail, Carl Plummer, Winifred Ward, and Basil Husking. Writing : Katie Holland, Stella Murray, Lucy Fleming, Grace Plummfcr, and Maud M'Lelland. Drawing (freehand) : Josie O'Brien, Michael Deamer, and (landscape) Ruby Jackson. Music < vocal) : Alice M'Gill, Fred Livingston, and (instrumental) Ethel Pine. Shorthand : Ethel Pine. Geography : Frederick Perkins and Jessie Delabunt. Arithmetic : Carrie Pouinjrhans, Willie Hornby, John Suhomski, Alice Delahnnt, Bar Me Murphy, and Dorothy Delahunt. Reading : Katie Joyce, Charles Perkins, Tliomas Doling, and Cecil Mahou. Spel ing : Aily Mahon, Jane Hornby, Leonard Stott, Willie Joyce, and James Hornby. Writing : Lizzie Delahunt and Mary Neustrowski. Music : Carrie Poniughans. On the evening: ot the same day the annual prize distribution at St. Mary's parish took place iv the school hall. Before tMdistribution there was a very attractive entertainment given by^the pupils, and the Vicar-General presented the prises.
