Very deep regret was felt by the priests of the diocese of Dunedin and by the many other friends whom Father John Ryan has made V? tni i.P arfc of tne Colony, when it was learned that his mother Mrs. Katherme Ryan, of Ro.-crea, County Tipperary, had passed away. Tno announcement was not unexpected, a 8 it bad been known that Mrs. Ryan had been suffering from a long and serious illness. Her death took place at her home in Rosorea on the 20th • r" UgU f fc J ede eased la ? y was not&i for her extraordinary piety and devotion, and has given two sons to the Chnrch— Father John Ryan, of St. Joseph's Cathedral, Dunedin, and Father Michael Ryan, whose apostolic work lies in Pittsburg, USA The Funeral Office and Requiem Macs for the repose of the soul of Mrs Ryan took place at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Dunedin, on Wednesday! October o His Lordship Bish..p Verdon presided. The cantors were the Very Rev. Fathers O'Leary and J. O'Neill ; celebrant, the S!7-ii yDv D ! an Burke (Jnvercargill) ; deacon, Very Rev. J. ONeill: sub-deacon. Rev. P. O'Donnell (Gore); master of ceremonies, Rev. P. Murphy. There were also in the choir Faihers W. M'Mullen, J. Lynch, J. Delaney, T. J. Cahill (Wellington), and H. w . bleary. The solemn music of the Requiem Mass was exquisitely rendered by the choir of the Dominican Priory, and the absolutions were given by his Lordship the Bishop of Dunedin. Kind messages and expressions of sympathy— in which we heartily join— have reached Father Ryan from all sides.— R.l.P.
