WOOL MARKETS.

London, February 3.

Wool — The wool sales have just closed. 1 ."59,000 bales were catalogued, home buyers taking 81,000, Continental 60,000, and American 10,000, while 20,000 were held over. As compared with the December series' closing rates, merinos advanced fully 10 per cent., crossbreds 5 per cent. Inferior and heavy-conditioned merinos were keenly competed for by the Yorkshire trade. The advance is entirely attributed to the shortness of the supplies, the volume of trade in the woolen and worsted districts generally showing no improvement.
