MASTERTON.

(From our own correspondent.) October 0, 1807. On last Sunday week at tho 1 1 o'clock Mass in St. Patrick's, Miss Fannie Sheen, of Fcatherston, one of New Zealand's most gifted sopranos, sang "Angels ever bright and fair" with exquisite feeling. There was a very large congregation present on the occasion. The Rev. Father McKenna left Masterton en route for Australia, on Tuesday last. Pie intends first making arrangements for engaging nuns who will take over the new convent to be erected here ; and he will subsequently attend, in company with His Grace Archbishop Redwood, the consecration service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne. Important alterations in connection with our church are in contemplation, a new choir-loft and gallery being the projected additions. Parochial affairs during Father McKenna's absence will be administered by his highly popular curate, the Rev. Father Long, and the no less popular Maori missionary, the Rev. Father De Lach. Father De Lach's services are largely in request at Papawai, 18 miles from here, where the Great Maori Parliament has assembled. Our Forty-Hours' Adoration Ceremonies will commence on the 28th of November. Miss Agnes O'Connell, one of the most highly esteemed young ladies in our congregation, and a prominent member of the choir, left last Wednesday for Wanganui Convent, where she intends completing her studies. " Miss Aggie," as she was affectionately called, carries with her the very sincerest wishes of her many Masterton friends for a happy and successful collegiate career.
