DUNEDIN CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.
The usual weekly meeting of the Dunedin Catholic Literary Society was held in the Christian Brothers' Schoolroom on Friday evening. Mr. R. Dobbin, vice-president, occupied the chair, and the attednance was very good. The minutes of previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the chairman announced that as a public meeting in connection with the Church was being held in the next room they would not be able to carry out their programme as most of their members were engaged at the other meeting. Final arragements were made for the holding of the Society's first " open night " on next Friday, and a capital programme was arranged for the benefit of members and their friends. During the evening Mr. R. Dobbin contributed a humourous reading, and Messrs. A. Connor and H. Miles recitation*. The first debate of the session will take place on the 21st May, and the subject, " Is knowledge power," should furnish an interesting tussle. Mr. F. W. Petre will assume the negative.
