The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report for the week ended December 8, as follows • — Wheat — Millers are now holding off, prime velvet being the only sort saleable at equal to late rates. Quotations — For best milling velvet, 4s 8d to 4s lOd ; extra prime, 4s lid to 5s ; medium, 4s 6d to 4s 7d ; best tuscan, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; extra prime a shade more ; red wheat, best, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; medium, 4s to 4s 2d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats — There is no improvement in the demand since last week. Prices, however, show but little change, owing to the fact that sellers are not pushing sales. Quotations — For best feed and milling-, 2s to 2s Id ; medium, Is lid to 2s ; inferior, Is 8d to Is lOd (ex store, sacks extra, net). Barley — There are no sales of any consequence. Quotations nominal, say, for prime malting, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; medium, 2s 6d to 3s ; inferior, 2s to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks extra, net). Grass Seeds — Ryegrass seed is in heavy supply but without demand, quotations nominal, say for best machine-dressed, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; extra do, 3s to 3s 3d ; medium, 2s to 2s Id. Cocksfoot : Dull. Best, s^d to .">|d ; medium, 4£ to 3jd (ex store, sacks extra). Chaff — The supply being equal to requirements there is no alteration to note, quotations for prime, L 2 12s (id to L 2 I.js ; extra do, L 2 17s 6d ; medium, L 2 5s to L 2 7s 6d per ton (ex truck, sacks returned, net). Potatoes — Old Derwents are now almost out of the market and prices for best are from L.5 15s to L 6 per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in). Sheepskins — Buyers seem less anxious to operate, prices in consequence are not so firm, say for best green crossbreds, 4s (>d to 4s 9d ; extra heavy, a shade more ; medium, 3s 3d to 4s 3d ; best dry do. 4£d to s^d ; medium, 3d to 4d ; dry merinos, 2d to 4d per lb. Rabbitbkins — Only a very few now offering, medium and off season fetch 7d to 9d ; inferior, 4d to 5Jd ; suckers, Id to 2Jd per lb. Hides — Are in good demand, best fetching 2d to 2|d ; extra heavy, 2d to 3]d ; light 1 Jd to l|d ; inferior, Id to 1 }d per lb. Tallow and Fat — Market quiet, broken packages^ rendered mixed bring 10s t>d to 15s ; best mutton caul fat, lls to 1 Is (Jd ; medium, 9s 6d to 10s 6d, inferior, 8s 6d to 9s per cwt (ex store, net).
Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report as follows :—: — Oats. — We submitted a small catalogue, which proved quite sufficient for the requirements of those present. We quote . Prime milling 2s Id to 2s 2£d '. good to best feed, 2s to 2s Id ; medium, Is lOd to Is 11 per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. — No change to report. Prime milling samples are in request at late quotations. We submitted broken fowl wheat to-day, which realised 4s per bushel (sacks in). Barley. — Several feed lines offered, which sold at 2s 2d to 2s 3d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes. — None offered. The market is bare at present, and any good Derwents offering to-day would secure the top price of the season. Chaff. — There is little prime oaten sheaf chaff offering, and for such there is fair inquiry. Medium quality is in over supply. We quote: Prime oaten sheaf, £2 12s 6d to £2 17s 6d ; medium, £2 to £2 7s 6d per ton (bags extra).
Messrs. Stronach Bros, and Morrh report for week ending Bth inst as follows :—: — { ~? Fat Cattle. — 146 yarded, values slightly harder. Best bullocks, £9 to £10 ; medium, do £7 10s to £8 10s ; light, do £6 to £6 10s ; best cows, £6 to £7 10s medium do, £."> to £~> 10s. Fat Sheep. — 1836 came forward and met fair competition with prices unchanged. Best crossbred wethers, los to 16s 6d ; (shorn) 11s 6d to 13s ; medium do, 10s to lls ; best crossbred ewes, I3sto 14s6d ; (Bhorn) 10s 6d to Ils6d. Fat Lambs. — 479 penned and some at 6d and Is per head over late rates. Best lambs, 9s 6d to 10s ; medium do, 8s to 8s 9d ; inferior, 7s to 7s 6d. Pigs. — 49 submitted and met a very good market. Suckers, 8s to lls ; slips, 12s to 15s ; stores, 16s to 21s ; porkers, 23s to 27s ; light bacon pigs to 30s.
Sheepskins. — We sold a very large catalogue to-day at satisfactory figures. Rabbitskins. — The London market shows an advance of Id to 2d per lb for winter and Jd to Id for other grades, and this improvement was fully reflected on sales held this week. Oats. — Prime milling, 2s Id to 2s 2 Jd ; feed, 2b to 2s 1 Id . medium, Is lOdtolslld (sacks extra). Wheat. — Good demand, prime velvet, 4s 9d to 5s ; Tuscan, 4s 8d to 4s lOd ; medium, 4s 4d to 4s 7d ; fowl feed, 3s lOd to 4s 3d (sacks in). Chaff. — Medium quality plentiful, best to £2 17s 6d ; medium, from £2 to £2 7s 6d.
Mebsbs Laery and Co., Limited, Grain and Produce Merchants, Wellington, report as follows :—: — Cheese. — Choice brands (medium size), 4Jd to 4£d ; loaf, 4^d ; good (new), 4d to 4^d per lb. Butter. — Prime separator, in roll (fresh), 9d to lOd ; prime salt, 6Jd ; prime dairy, 6d ; ordinary, 4d to 5d per lb. Eggs. — 9d to lOd per dozen. Wheat. — Prime whole fowl wheat, 4b 3d ; prime milling, 4s 9d per bushel. Oats. — Market firm. Prime short feed, 2s 4d ; Danish, 2s 3d ; duns, 2s 4d ; black oats, 2s 4d ; Tartars (seed), 2s 5d ; sparrowbill (seed), 2s od per bushel. Barley. — Prime feed, 2s 8d ; malting, nominally 3s 9d per bushel. Potatoes. — Market strong. We quote Canterbury and Oamaru grown, £5 to £5 10s per ton. New potatoes — Kidneys, 13s to 16s ; round, 10s to 12s per cwt. Chaff. — Prime bright heavy feed, Gas ; medium to good, 52s 6d to 57s Gd per ton. Grass Seed. — Cocksfoot — Prime bright heavy farmers' dressed, 4',d to 4|d ; medium to good, 3d to 4d per lb. Ryegrass — Prime bright machine dressed, 4s to 4s 6d ; farmers' parcels, 2s 9d to 3a per bushel.
