Public field trial of Reid and Gray's implements.— Oa Wednesday last, pnblic field trials of the celebrate*! Defnrg All-Steel Pony Binder, and of Messrs Reid and Graj'd Grain Drill and Grass and Turnip Sower, and new Pollard Distributor and Rabbit Exterminator, took place at Mr Hare's farm at Clarendon. The weather was splendid, and some 150 settlers were present to witness the tria's. The first machine shown was the Deering Pony Binder, and it was used both in cutting cats and barley, the work being particularly well done in every respect ; especially in lowress of catting, the even delivery of the sheaves, and the lightness of draught. This binder, which is a very handsome machine, U entirely d fferent from all other machines of a like nature ; more particu'arly in the changa to roller and ball bearings ; it is also very eisily adjusted by the driver, who has all levers under his control, and is seated close to the ground. Another a (vantage that this machine has over all others is the ease with which it can be used in cuttirg on the sides of bill?. The next machine exhibited was Reid and Gray's improved grain driller, and it was also greatly admired owing to the fact that it wa9 able to sow, without a hitc'i, all chases of manure and lime. One of the tests was of a very difficult nature ; lime being placed on oce of the boxes, Fi6on's fertiliser on one of the boxes on the other side, and the intermediate boxes being filled with gravel. Notwithstanding this, the sowing was equal and rgular throughout, no chance being given of breakages owing to faulty manures. The Pollard Distributor anl Rabbit Exterminator was then shown, and i<B work called forth great praise from all the farmers present, they be.ng particularly pleased with th 3 ease of adjustment, as to the length of epacings, the lightness of the machine, and its suitability, in a high degree, to all kinds of country. By the use of this machine farmers should, in a short time, be able to cl ai their farms of tha rabbit pcs f . All these machines' are kept in stock by Messrs Reid and Gray, and can be obtained from all their local agents. Mr Gray, of the firm of Reid and Gray, and Mr Burns, then travelling representative, were both present at the trials, and gave every information possible as to the working of the various machine*. All the farmers preeent were very much pleased with the manner in which the various machines did their work ; so mnch so, in fact, that, as will be seen in ano'her column, they gave a very high testimonial of the excellence of the woik done, and of Ire capabilities of these implements, notwithstanding tbe very severe teßta tc which they were put.
