We gather from West Coast filea that Mr Davitt was met at Jackson's on Saturday, 16th, by Messis O'Regan, M.H.R., Guinesp, M.H.R., and a large party. Mr Felix Campbell, Mayor of Greymouth, welcomed him on hia arrival at 3 30. Bafore his lecture, on " The progress of Home Rule," Mr D Sheedy presented him with an address from the young men of the Grey Valley. The " thanks " resolution waa moved by the actiDg Speaker of the New Zealand P*rli\mea', Mr Guineas, and seconded by the Hon Mr Kerr. We find Father Carew with Father O'Hallahan on tha platform at the Kumara lecture •' Ou the L \boit Movement." Mr Daasi^n, M.0.0 , wiß ohairman, and welcomed '-the Father of the Land League." Mr Jameß Rochford read an address. The Kumara Times in an interesting sketch makes a fairly good attempt to give Mr Daviti's amusing list of two candidates' election expenses. A paper in Oh a -tors Tow rs tried to do the same, and failed. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr John Murdoch, and aeconied by Mr John Hay. The West Coast Times tells ua that Messrs Toomey (chairman), Cahill (secretary), and Horgan (treasurer), introduced Mr Davitt to Hokitika. He was accompanied by Fathers Carew, Walsh, and O'Hallahan. Oa the morning after the lecture— at which Very Rev Dean Martin, Bey Father Brown and a large number of prominent citizens were present— Mr Davitt started for Reefton. He seems to have been well cared for by the clergy of the Coast. We find from the papers that FatheraCarew, O'Hallahan and McManua accompanied him to Reefton. Mr O'Regan, who presided at the Reefton lecture, was styled by Mr Davitt " a young reformer of generous enthußism and noble zeal, who had a great future before him." Rev Fathers Roland and Bell occupied seats on the platform, and the vote of thanka was proposed by Mr Mirfin, J.P. t and seconded by Mr Caples, J.P. Ow'ng to special arrangements made by the Union company Mr Davitt was able to do the famous Buller Gorge and after a waim-hearted meeting at Westport, leave in time to reach Wellington on Thursday, 23. Though a detailed account is not to hand, we are sure the patriotic priests and people of Westport showed him the utmost kindness.
