The reception at Invercargill railway station was equally enthusiastic, the platform being crowded with the general public. The Mayor read an address of welcome on behalf of the citizens.
Mr Davitt thanked the Mayor most sincerely for attending in his official capacity, and also express^ ! hi 3 thaiksto t&e cit.z -ns who had signed the address, for their eympa'hy with the cauge which he represented. It was a hopeful augury to nr-gm his tuur of New Zaland with such a welcome. This colony enjoyed constitutional liberty and was proaperous. All that Irelanl ai-k^-d was the like privilege, and when that was metid out to her shw would be a contented member of the Empire. It was for thu n^ht he had tnod to carry out a soldier's part, and he should continue to fi^ht on for the same object, bearing in mind, at the same time, his du'y to 9trive for the interests of the workiDg classes (applaust) Three cheers for the visitor were given with great heartiness. Mr Davitt is just fresh from a visit to Western Australia, and, ns may be expected, is not in such robust health as we should like to see him in, We express the hope, however, that the gentle br^ez's and invigorating atmosphere of our New Zjilaad climate will speedily restore him to his accustomed good health.
