Store Cattle— The market for these in the meantime lacks animation, no business of any consequence transpiring, merely confined to od't lot* now and a^ain, and m variably at prices in buyers' favour. Tne scarcity of feed now aad for eotne time to coma will retard operations '0 a considerable extent. Store Sheep — There are n ) transactions of any importance to record. There are very few now off:nng, but in the meantime apparently sufficient for requirements. I'ne demand is not extra oribk, nnd the market in consequence is a! present sjmewhat q -liet. Wo I— The £>urth series of Colonial wool sales in London cloied on the 20th ult. We have the following telegram from our London office :—": — " The wool sales clos a d iirmly thus day, and, compared with t c prices at the close of the thud series, greasy merino super, scoured merino super, greasy merino medium and inferior, scoured do do, fine greasy crossbred, fine scoured do, and me Hum greasy do ara p'jr to £1 per lb higher." There is very little doing in the local market, save the disposal of oddments on the weekly skin sale days. Ail offered meet with very good competition and realise full prices, considering the quality offered. Sheepskins — A very good demand is experienced for these, and 'he weekly market regularly and well attended. Oa Tuesday we submitted a full catalogue representing the usual variety which met with very latisfactory competition. Hides — Prime heavy sorts and clean met with a very srood sale, while light and inferior torts command less attention. Quotations for best, 601bs and orer, 2£d to 3d ; medium weights, l£d to 2d ; inferior and light, Id to l£d per Ib, Tallow and Fat— Best rendered mutton, 18s 6d to 20s ; medium to good, 153 6d to 17s 6 i ; inferior to medium, 12s 6i to 15? ; best mutton canl far, 133 to 13s 61 ; medium to good, 12j to 12i 9i ; inferior to medium, 10j to 11s 91 per cwt (ex store). Wheat — The market shows little or no change since date of our last report, while all sorts are saleable and prices remain firm, buyers are not disposed to advance, being suitably supplied from the North at prices on a par with our quotation*. For prime milling, velvet, 2a lid to 3a ; extra choice, a shade more ; medium to good do and best Tuscan, 2s 9d to 2s lid ; good to best red wheat, 2s 7d to 2s 9d ; medium to good whole fowls' wheat, la 5d to 2s 6d ; broken and inferior, 2s to 23 4d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats— There is no animatiun of any consequence as yet pervading the marker, while there is a small amount of business pnßsing there is nothing of any importance to record. Wa quote : Prime milling, Is 5d to Is s}d ; choice, Is 6d ; best stout bright feed, Is 4£d to Is 5d ; medium tojgood, Is 3Jd to Is 4£d ; inferior and musty, Is Id to Is 2^i ; odd lots of long oats fit lor seed occasionally fetch from Is 8d to 2s (ex store, sacks extra, net) Barley— There is some inquiry for good, bright, stout malting for export, but no business of any importance is at the moment transpiring. Quotations for prime malting, 33 6d to 3s 9d ; choice, 4s ; medium to good, 3a to 3a 3d ; milling, 2s 3d to 2s 9J ; feed, Is 9i to 2s (ex store, sacks extra).
Grass Beeds— Bye grass seed has some Inquiry, and a little more business is beiog done, though oot to any great extent, As the season advance*, however, wa look for an improvement in the demand, and as Btocke are light prices should remain firm ; good to best machine dressed is held for 3a to 39 6d ; choice perennial, 3s 9d to 4s 3d (ex store, sacks extra, net), Cocksfoot seed best dressed held for sid to 6}d ; medium, 4d to 5d p«r Ib. Potatoes — The market for these continues rather sluggish, there being no demand beyond requirements for local consumption ; prices show no change, last week's are again applicable, say for btst Derwents, L 2 2s 6d to L 2 5d ; choice, L 2 7s 61 to L 2 10a ; medium, |L1 12i 6d to L 2 per ton (ex store, sacks weighed in, net). Chaff —Deliveries during the week being quite in keeping with requirements, prices obtaining show but little difference, say for prime L 3 12s 6d to L 2 15s ; medium to good, L 2 5s to L 2 10a ; inferior to medium, Ll 12s 6d to L 2 per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, net). Dairy Prodnce— There is no speculative demand, tbe market in consequence is quiet, sales confined to retail lots. Quotations for prims salt butter, dairy made, 6d to 7d ; medium, 4 i to 5d ; factory made steady at9d to lOd per lb. Factory made cheese, medium size dull at 4±i to 4f d ; loaf shape, 4ii to 5d ; dairy made, 2d to 3 id per lb.
• Flax— There have been no consignments forward lately. Quotations nominal, say for medium to good, Ll3 10a to Ll4 10j ; inferior to medium, LlO to Ll2 per ton (ex store).
Missis Donald Bkid and Co. report as follows :— Babbitskins— Wintsrs mixed, B^d to llsd ; early winter nixed 6d to 8± ; autumD, 4d to 8d ; Bummer, 3d to 5d ; black and fawn 4d to 10{d (according to season) ; suckers and half-grown mixed Ud to 3d. *
