Commercial.

A. Todd, on behalf of The New Zealand Land Association Limited, repert for week ending February 21, as followß :—: — Store Cattle — A moderately fair amount of business is being done in these, and the demand still sufficiently strong to absorb all available, and invariably prices are more in favour of sellers. Store Sheep— We have no improvement to note in the tone of the market, which so far has not been exceedingly active. The volume of business passing is not extra heavy and prices ruling for the few changing hinds do not show any advance. Sheepskins — At our weekly auction on Tuesday we submitted a miscellaneous catalogue, which attracted the usual attendance of buyers, who competed with a fairly satisfactory amount of business, all the lots being disposed of. We quote — Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 10s to 3s 2d ; do do merino, Is 7d to 2s l<i ; medium to full woolled crossbreds, 3s 3d to i-t 9i ; beat, 5s to 59 6d ; extra h avy, 5s 9d to 6s ; full woolled mrrinos, good, 2a 3 1 to 3s 8d ; bes', 3s 9d to ii 8d ; dry peltp, 2J to Is 5 1 ; green crossbred pelts, best, Is 6d to Is lOi ; extra prime, Is lid to 2a ; medium to good, Is 4i to Is 61 ; green lambskins, best, 2a Id to 2d 4d ; medium to good, la 6d to Is lid each. Rabbitskins — Prices ruling for these now show a vsry considerable drop compared with those obtaining lately. At our auction sale on Monday the attendarce was somewhat better, but bnyers were not disposed to advarce on la6t week's low prices. We quote — hpring skins, 8d to 9^i ; summer, 5d to 6Jd ; suckers and hali-grown, 2ji to 3^d ; low season, black, 5d per lb. Hides — The demand for these is steady at late quotations, best well saved salted ox hides, 60 lbs and over, 2£d to 3d ; medium, l^d to 2d ; inferior and light, Id to l}d per lb. Tallow — A steady demand exists and all coming forward is readily placed un a par with late quotations, rough fat is also in good request. Quotations for best rendered mutton, 21s to 22s 6d ; medium to gc od, 18* 6d to 20s 6d ; inferior, 14s to 17s 6d ; best fresh mutton caul fat, 14a to 14s 61 ; medium to gooi, 12s 6J to 13a 9d ; inferior to medium, 11s to 12s 3d per cwt, ex store. Wheat — Tbe demand for this cereal is anything but satisfactory. There art at present no buyers for almost any sort, in parcels of any size the demand being confined to Bmall lots of choice northern velvet. Meantime we quote good to best milling, 2s 81 to 23 9d ; choice velvet a shade more, medium to good, 2s 61 to 2s 7d ; inferior to medium. 2s 2d to 2s 5i ; ex store, sacks weighed in, terms. Oats— Tbere is no improvement in the demand for these, Australian markets off j r no inducement to Bhipperp, and in the absence of a demand for export the market seems somewhat weaker. We quote, best feed and milling, Is ll£d to 2s. in small lines ; medium to good, Is lOd to Is lid : inferior to medium, Is 8d to Is 91 ; ex store, sacks extra, net. Barley — There is little or nothing so far being done in this cereal, and pending the arrival of the new crop there will be no business of any consequence to report, Quotation 0 , meantime, are merely nominal, say, for best mailing, 3s 9J to 4a ; medium to good, 3i 3d to 39 6d ; milling, 2s 6d to 3d ; feed, 2a to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks extra, terms) . Grass Seeds — There is a moderately fair amount of business passing in ryegraes seed, chiefly farmers' diessed ; but buyers now having such a targe quantity to choose from are not so keen to give prices quoted last week. We quote— Best machine-dressed, 3d to 3a 3d ; very choice, up to 4s 6d. Farmers' best dressed, 2* 3J to 2g 7d ; extra clean, a shade more ; inferior to medium and dirty, Is 6d to 2s (ex store, eacks extra, net). Chaff— Owing to the supply being much heavier, prices bare been more in buyers' favour. Good to best, L 3 10s to L 3 17s 6d ; extra choice, L4toL 4 5a ; medium, L 2 69 to L 2 15s ; inferior, LI 10s to L 2 per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, net), Dairy Produce— Prime salt butter, dairy made, slow sale at 6d to 7d ; medium, 4d to 5d ; factory, 9d to lOd per lb.
