Mr William E. Quinby, editor of the Detroit Free Press, has been appointed United States Minister to the Netherlands. Th« honour is fitly bes'owed. Mi Quinby is a good citizen, a good democrat, and, harder yet of attainment, a good editor. The Free Press is known wherever the English language is spoken, as the model American humorous paper. We do not know any other paper of which it can be truly sa d tbat it is witty without malice, clean without dulnees, and wholly free from anything which might be deemed insulting to i ace or creed. The rare tact which has achieved this success is a quality whioh should eerve Mr Qainby well in the comparatively easier field of diplomacy. — Pilot.
