CONVENT SCHOOLS, GORDON.

On 8t Patrick's Day a number of parents and friends of pupils met in tbe Convent nchools, Gordon, to witness the distribution of prizes and listen to a programme of songs, recitations, etc., by tbe children The prizes (amongst them gifts from the Bishop, Father Vereker and Father O'Neill) were distributed by Father Newport. The appearance and conduct of the pupils were excelled, and reflected tin greatest possible credit on the Mother Superior and 8i B ters. Maggie Fraser •nd Annie O'Kane won the two principal prizes and "crowns" •warded for good conduct, and their laurels well became them. The following is the list of prizes :-Henrietta Fraser, religious knowledge, English, garammar, drawing and aiithmetic ; Maggie Fraser good conduct, reading and English ; Annie O'Kane, good conduct music and fancy work ; Mary Macaffer, Eaglisb, French, amiability and pohtiness ; 8 3 phia Christensoo, sewing, singing, recitation •nd writing ; Mary Flanagan, religions knowledge and reading ; Alice Burnby, arithmetic; Nellie Sparks, reading ; Aaron Burnby, ■pelhng ; Agnes Regefsky, amiability >, Jack O'Kane, grammar and hiitory ; Eddie Ambrose, English and recitation ; John FlanagaD arithmetic ; Bridget O'Neill, religious knowledge and English ; Whitely King, regular attendance, geography and drawing ; Elsie Green, readiagand punctuality ; Pitr-ck O'Neill, arithmetic, English and re»din* ; James Regefsky, reading and English ; Hugh McDonald, amiability ; H. Macaffjr, English and arithmetic ; Evelyn Johnson, religious knowledge and mental arithmetic ; Andrew Taylor regular attendance and arithmetic ; John O'Neill, arithmetic and English ; Mary O'Rourke, neatness and order. The following programme was then admirably gone through by the children, the four exercises in drill being a special feature, and Julia Sulhvtn's two recitations eliciting much admiration and calling for special mention. Sullivan; juvenile performance, " Here we stand," " Hen convention," 4( The peasant" ; four exercises in drill : (1) •< Polly put the kettle on" (2) "Sing a pong of sixpence," (3) " Mrs Bond," (4) 11 Boys and girls come out to play " ; pianoforte duet, " Shepherds 1 evening song," Misses Macaff iT and O'Kine ; recitation, " Tipperary," Master E. Ambrose; round, " Children when you come to school" (tonic solfa) ;•' The greengrocer," pupils • 8 oa ? , " Birdie's ball "' • rec.tation, " The dollies," J. Sullivaa ; song, "Toe deir little Shamrock," boys ; dialogue, " Grandmammi " ; recitation, « Becalmed " Miss 8. Christenson ; " All praiae to St Patrick," pupils. A feast was provided for and greatly enjoyed by the younger pnpils. There was a drawing of dolls, the fortunate girls being Nony Johnston, Iva Wallis, and Cissy Johnston ; and tbe elder children were afterwards treated to an entertainment in the schoolroom which they greatly appreciated. It should be mentioned tbat tbe 'accompaniments to the various songs on the programme were skillfully played by Mary Macaffer. Altogether the af ernoon was a most pleasant one both for Ihe young folks and their elders.
