DUNEDIN ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
This Society gave a hipbly successful concert in the Garrison Hall on Wednesday eveniDg, tbe Ist inst, in aid of the Queensland Flood Relief fund. The performances of the orchestra wrre remarkably good, reflecting infinite credit on the conductor, Mr James Coombs. They included Guog'l's " Gamerra" March; a selection from "Patience"; Massenet's "Angelim" ani 'Bohemian Festival"; a selection from the" Gondoliers" ; Desormt's "Serenade de Mandolines " ; and KeW Bela's "Am Schonen Rhtin " In every ins'anca a complete euccesi was achieved. If it were necp'sary to choosfl, we should perhaps prefer tbe "Angelus," a truly admirable pe.forroaoce, and the "Gondolier?," in which a cornet polo was particularly pleasing. The vocalists were the Misses Rose Blaney and Treseder, and Messrs Jago and Packer. Miss hose Blaney was in capital voico and gave a charming rendering of Gorcia's " Salve Maria," with violin obbligato by Mr E. Paiker Miss Treseder sang Sullivan's " Will ha come?" with great sweetness aod expression. B >th young ladies received an encore which was declinea. Mr Jtgo cave » fine interpretation of White's " Golden Angosy," and Mr Packer pane i a very acceptab'e manner, Tours' " Because of Thee." Mr W. E. Taylor, F.C 0., accompanied the singers on the piano. Tie hall was well filled.
