MR. J. K. COX, M.P., RETURNS TO IRELAND.

(Sydney Freeman's Journal, Norember 7.)

Mb J. R. Cox, M.P., for Clare, Ireland, who came to the colonies to collect for the evicted tenants in Ireland, will return to the old country next week. It is the hon. gentleman's intention to return to Ireland by the s.s. Orizaba, which leaves Melbourne on Saturday, 14th inst. Mr Cox arrived from New Zealand in Sydney during the past week. He haa held successful meetings and established branches of the Irish National Federation at Auckland, Thames, Wellington, Chnstchnrch, Napier, Hastings, and other places. At Napier £200 was subscribed. Mr Cox speaks in most grateful terms of the kindness shown him all through New Zealand, and he specially expresses his acknowledgments to the Right Bey. Dr. Grimes, Bishop of Ohrißtchurch, who was one of his warmest supporters. Mr Cox made up bis mind to return to Ireland on the receipt of the news of the death of Mr Parnell. With the immediate prospect of the National Funds in Paris being released, Mr Cox did not feel justified in continuing to appeal to Australian generosity. Apart from political reasons, Mr Cox's return has been hastened by the death of his father-in-law, Mr Mooney. A private cable was received from Ireland asking Mr Cox not to delay for family reasons. The late Mr Mooney, it will be recollected, subscribed £100 when the new National Federation was established in Dublin, and when a challenge was subsequently put forth by Mr John Redmond with respect to the Irish tenants Mr Mooney gave another donation of £100 as a pledge that the tenants would not be neglected by Mr Justin McCarthy and those supporting him. Mr Cox will hold a farewell meeting in Melbourne next week. In connection with his New Zealand experiences, Mr Cox states that some of the men forming his committee in several places were Parnellites. In New Zealand, it is claimed those sympathising with the unfortunate tenants put differences of opinion on the leadership question aside in the face of the pressing needs of the evicted tenants.
