Wool- By the San Francisco mail to hand we are in possession of priced catalogue down to the close of last series of wool sale* at Home, also our London circular of July, which says there was a numerous attendance, and that competition was .fairly active. Barley : No change for good maltine but feed end milling has a little more inquiry. Chaff— Market bare ; no advance on last week s prices. Dairy Produce— Market bare of really prime Bait butter, which is worth about 8 I ; medium and inferior hard to place. Very little factory cheese offering, bat the demand 19 not extra brisk at 4Jd per »b for medium size, and 5d for loaf ; dairy made, 3d to 4d per lb, in alf Flax— Very little doing, and prices on the basis of those current lately. Donald Bteonach a*to Sons report for week ending Ugl Fat Cattle— Moderately fair demand was experienced for gwl Quality • but to effect sales of low-conditioned cattle very low prices had to be effected. Best bullocks brought £7 5s to £8 10s; light weights, £3 5s to £5. Best cows, £5 10s to £6 5s ; inferior and light, £1 15s to £2 7s 6d. Fat Sheep— Transactions were about the most unsatisfactory for a considerable time back. Sales opened dull and continued so to the finish, prices ruling being lower than last week a by 2s to 2s 6d PeF p£ B.8 '.— Suckers brought 7s to 10< ; slips, Us to 13s 61 ; stores, 16s to 18a; porkers, 21s to 26*; baconera, 30s to 36s— extra heavy, Store Cattle.— The market at present is almost at a standstill ; no sales of any consequence transpiring. Best greys brought 16Jd to ltyd ; small lots, tot? select, to 19d ; medium to good, 13id to 16d ; late antamn skins, 9i to 13d ; summer do, 6d to 8d ; snckers and half-grown, 3d to 4W ; black anl fawn best, 13d to 14Jd ; inferior to medium , 6d to lOd per lb. Hides— No change of any consequence in the position of the market. The demand for heavy hides continues fairly aotire at late quotations. Light hides, however, have not the same attention, and in order to place these very low prices have to be accepted. Tallow — Hume market continues firm, late quotations being almost unchanged. The demand continues fairly active, and all offering meet with a ready sale. Quotations— For medium to good Tendered, 16s to 18s ; prime mutton a shade lower ; inferior and mixed, 12a to 15s. Bough fat is freely disposed of at, for best, 12s 9d to 13a 6d ; inferior to medium and good, 9s to 12s 6d per cwt. Grain— Wheat : This market is bare of all sorts, especially prime milling, for which there is a growing demand. Fowls' wheat is also in good demand, but while inferior barley can be obtained at the low prices ruling thia season, no advance can be secured for the former. Oats : The demand has not been extra bisk, chiefly owing to the Australian market being more than folly supplied. Grass Seed. — There is no change to report m either ryegrass or cocksfoot. For the former we quote— best dressed perennial, 6a 6d to 5s 9d ; medium, 6s to 5s 3d ; farmers' best, 3s 9d to 4s 3d ; medium, 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; cocksfoot— best dressed, s£l to 6si ; medinm, 3d to 6d (exßtore). Potatoes.— There is no improvement in values for these, the supply beine still in excess of requirements. Quotations for best Derwents, 42a 6d to 45s ; medium, 30s to 40a per too (sacks weighed in). Chaff. — A very fair demand has been experienced and prices then quoted easily maintained, for best oaten sheaf, properly cat, 46a to 47s 6d : medium, 37s 61 to 42s 6d ; inferior, 25s to 35sper ton. Dairy Produce.— A moderate demand for prime salt butter at 7d to 8d ; medium, hard to place at 3d to 6d per lb. Cheese : Factorymade, medium eito, 4?d to 5d ; baf, 5d to s£i per lb. Flax.— Good to fine, £17 to £18 ; extra fine a shade more ; medium, £14 10a to £16 10s ; inferior, £12 10s to £14 per ton. Messrs Donald Reid & Co. report for week ending August 12 as follows :— Wheat — Business in this cereal continues dull . Reports from the London and European markets, however, are fairly satisfactery and as there is ondoubtedly a short supply of this cereal in our own market, sellers are hopeful and continue to hold for full values. Fowls' wheat is scarce and commands ready sale. We quote—Milling, prime, 4s 6i to 4s 8d ; medium, 4s 41 to 4a 5d ; inferior, 4s to 4s 3d ; fowl's wneat. 3s 6d to 3s lid. Oats— There is a good inquiry for all qualities and descriptions, and any arriving meet with a speedy clearance at quotations. Milling Is 6d to Is 7d ; bright feed, Is 5d to Is 5Jd ; discoloured feed, 4s 3d to Is 4sd. . Barley — There is a good inquiry, and a moderate business is being done at quotations. Malting, 2s 5d to 2s lid ; milling, 2s to 28 4d, sacks extra. Potatoes.— The market for this product has collapsed completely, and we cannot recommend clients to s n nd further consignments at present. Dealers are only buying from band to mouth. Prime fresh picked derwents realised at auction by the truck-loid 30s per ton, which we quote as current value for prime quality. Even at tbis low price, there is very little sale, and most of tne lots arriving ha/c to be taken into store. Inferior are almost unsaleable. Kidneys meet with small inquiry at from 30s to 45s per ten. Chaff. — The supply coming forward is quite inadequate at this season of the year, and as there is a kr^e consumption at present, all arriving meets with ready sale at late rates ; a much larger supply could be placed if available. We quote prime heavy, well cut 45s to 47s 6d ; medium 40s to 423 6d ; inferior 303 to 37a 6d.
