A committee, headed by the violinist Joachim, has been formed to erect a monument in Berlin to Mozart, tbe celebrated composer.
Count Mattui who claims to have discovered an infallible cur a for the heretofore incurable disease of cancer, is now in his 82nd year. Sprung from a noble family, he is yet indebted for bis title to Pius IX., to whom be was devotedly attached. His remedies are said to be t eld in great repute in Rome, and rumour has it that the Count meditates leaving one half of the profits derivable from the sales of his medicines for the purposes of the propagation of the Catholic f >itb. Among the many interesting letters in the Count's goldea b >ok there is one from tbe famous Cardinal Lavigerie in which bis Eminence describes the g od effects wrought by tha Count's r^m- diea ii the Hospital of tbe French Sisters of Bon Stcourg in Tunis. The O >unt bas bis business betdquar ers in Bologna, but ts) lives in a castle he has built f r himself, a very quaint and beautiful edifice called La Roche tta, near Riola. An American company is sad to have offered the Count £200,000 for his secret, which offer, however, he rejected.
